The Players

with K O’Brien & The Players

Third Sundays at 7:00PM

The third Sunday of each month is The Players’ time, where we put together original shows that relate to our lives in the Driftless area. We celebrate where we live and express concerns over the landscapes of the outside world. Recently, we have had a lot of fun letting our animals speak their views of the world.

The Players have been entertaining people in the Driftless since 1998. K O’Brien leads this troupe of ever-changing theater enthusiasts in creating high quality stage and radio performances. The group started out as the “Too Busy To Play” Players, signifying a stepping down from professional theater to theater in the Driftless where pay is not part of the equation.

The group started out as the “Too Busy To Play” Players, signifying a stepping down from professional theater to theater in the Driftless where pay is not part of the equation.

The Underground Theater was the group’s home for many years, a place where they produced full length plays and created monthly cabarets of local talent.  With the loss of the Underground Theater space they have become The Players, a group looking for their home. The Players have also produced under the title ‘The Viroqua Women’s Theater’, creating four original plays as a group.

For a brief period, the Players were The Congo Players of the Underwater Church of Gays Mills until the church went underwater for the last time! During this period, The Players created a radio show ‘Onomatopoeia’– stories of a bookstore in the Karst region, with a magic elevator that can take you anywhere. This played on WDRT and opened the door to a monthly program.

Core members at this time include K O’Brien, Brad Otto, Kile Martz, Craig Anderson, Cele Wolf, Gereon Welhouse, M’Lou Wilkie, David Oldenburg, Carl Schlecht, Tanja Birke, Bonnie Wideman and Sara Tedeschi.
