We snorkel with Carl Safina and Ray Boland off Laysan Island and see the brilliant colors and habits of the fish there, and learn about Ray Boland, who with his team, is working to get commercial fishing netting untangled and off of the reefs and shores of the remote Hawaiian Islands. I’m reading segments from Eye of the Albatross by Carl Safina, published in 2002. I also found a recent article about scientists testing a vaccine that may protect the tiny population of Hawaiian Monk Seals from the highly pathogenic avian flu (HPAI) which has ravaged seal populations around the world.
