Reading segments from Eye of the Albatross by Carl Safina; We leave the long-line fishing vessel Masonic, in SE Alaska, and head to Midway Island, the remotest part of the Hawaiian Chain; but, tourists may visit Midway and the history is fascinating. Hundreds of thousands of Laysan Albatrosses nest here along with the more rare Black Footed Albatrosses and approximately 17 other species of birds.

“Virtually no island is more distant from the peopled continents. Or more worth the trip…Midway feels like small town U.S.A. plus two million seabirds.” We will meet David Itano who is researching two species of tuna in a pristine part of a Pacific seamount.
