On-Air Broadcasting Begins!

Friday, September 17 marked the culmination of 7 years and countless hours of volunteer planning and development as WDRT 91.9FM went on the air for the first time.

The historic first broadcast included a unique format celebrating the launch of WDRT's on-air presence, and members of the community were encouraged to stop by the station at 311 S. Main St. in Viroqua to take a tour of the facilities as WDRT brings the community’s voice to the airwaves. Regular programming was set to begin on Saturday, September 18.

At the time of the on-air launch, WDRT had 51 local programmers scheduled to host shows. And the antenna – located on the Vernon Telephone tower between Viroqua and Westby – was expected to cast a wide net, reaching north beyond Cashton, east to Hillsboro, south to Soldiers Grove, and west to De Soto, covering most of Vernon County and parts of adjacent counties. Programming will evolve as more local hosts become trained to produce segments and as the station responds to community input.
