WDRT Construction Update

Studio Buildout Nearing Completion

  • WDRT Studio Construction June 30, 2010
  • WDRT Studio Construction June 30, 2010

Great Construction Progress!

The WDRT construction crew has been hard at work building the two broadcast studios. They've got all the drywall up (all three layers!), and as of the last day of June were nearly done taping the drywall joints and corners.

The studio equipment has been ordered, and the desks are being custom built by Joe Clark.

Next up will be the windows, the ventilation system and the doors.

Many people have been helping with the construction.

If you have questions or would like to contribute in any way to help bring WDRT 91.9FM to the airwaves, please contact us at info@wdrt.org.

Listening Session Update

Gathering on a Cold January Night Draws a Crowd

Residents Share Thoughts

On January 28, 2010 Driftless Community Radio welcomed community members at its Main Street studio to learn how future listeners want their new local radio station to sound. On one of the coldest nights of the season 50 folks showed up to share their ideas.

They envision WDRT's role in the community as:

  • A uniting force, a bridge between community divisions that emphasizes our commonalities
  • A channel for open communication, unbiased in its accessibility
  • A means of respectful civil discourse
  • A reflection of the community's heritage
  • A reflection of the community's uniqueness
  • A daily clearinghouse of information, including news and weather
  • A space for youth to learn and express themselves
  • A collaborator with and promoter of local arts and the library
  • A source of entertainment

These thoughts match the mission that's been guiding the board since it first started.

To the question “What do you want to hear on your local community radio station?” the crowd emphasized the importance of detailed local weather and news and expressed a desire for a broad range of music, plus arts programming that showcases musicians, actors, and writers from the area.

A report about the listening session made front page news in the February 3rd issue of the Vernon County Broadcaster.

Fear not! If you missed this first listening session, you can join us at the next session on March 25th in Westby. Check back here soon for the specific time and location.

Welcome to WDRT

WDRT 91.9 FM Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA
Born 24 March 2009

Radio from the Ground Up

We are Wisconsin's Driftless region's only community radio station — commercial-free, independent, and volunteer-run.

We're committed to bringing listeners local news, airing a broad mix of music and talk unavailable elsewhere on the dial, providing a forum for all residents to discuss public issues, and teaching the art of broadcasting and audio production.

We obtained our FCC construction permit in March 2009 and we aim to be broadcasting by summer 2010. To accomplish this, we need your help.

Volunteer!

Building a radio station like WDRT is truly a community effort. We're depending on volunteers to construct the studios and later to produce and host shows, gather and report news, and administer and govern the station. To participate, please contact us at volunteering@wdrt.org.

Donate!

At this time we're also relying on the community to help bring this station to the airwaves. Thanks to the generosity of community donors, our capital campaign to raise $91,900 has been successful. Now, in Phase II of our fundriasing efforts, we're seeking another $91,900 to cover startup expenses, including programming, music, volunteer training, and operations. Please show your support for locally operated, locally crafted radio by making a generous donation to WDRT 91.9 FM.
