In Concert: The Foghorn Stringband at Folklore Village
The Foghorn Stringband will be blowing through the Midwest in March and will perform Friday, March 2nd at Folklore Village. For over a decade, the Foghorn Stringband has been inspiring young and old to delve into the tangled roots of American music, to rejuvenate urban and rural barn dances, to learn how to call, and to share the wild ride along with them. Their latest cd, Sud de la Louisiane, displays their unique ability to sound excitingly raw yet accomplished and to slip seamlessly into Cajun, classic country and bluegrass, old-time Appalachia, and original territories. They do it all with a love and understanding of their traditional music sources, with the plain power of pure, blended voices and their ability to skillfully play 9 instruments between the four.

The quartet comprises of Caleb Klauder, (fiddle, mandolin and guitar) Stephen “Sammy” Lind, (fiddle, banjo and guitar) Quebec born Nadine Landry, (bass, guitar) and Reeb Willms (guitar). All four gleefully share vocal duties, bringing a new blend of voices and emotion with each song choice. You won't hear the commercial-drenched American Idol type of singing here- this is beautifully primitive, relatively unadorned yet alluring and powerful. The complexity and depth of American traditional songs demand it be so, and Foghorn allows the characters of the songs to speak for themselves from some not- so- distant past. Songs of temperance, family, loss and love abound, as does the dizzying feel of a party about to erupt in their fiddle-driven instrumentals. Roll back the rug and get on-board! This is a band not to miss in our neck of the woods. This concert is supported in part by the Wisconsin Arts Board and WORT Radio.
